Road Trip!!!!

The story of a couple newlyweds out on the open road... with a few pretty pictures

AMN_5328.jpg

This summer, I was sent to Los Angeles, to shoot the Jr Olympics of hockey and the Inline World Championships. After 2 weeks of shooting I flew my new wife out to California and we had ourselves a little road trip home. We spent some time in Cali, driving up the coastal highway 1 for a couple days. Unfortunately it was completely fogged in, so what should have been the drive of our lives was just pretty grey and unfortunate looking. I did however stop to get this nice shot of a friendly bird on a pier.

During my time shooting the hockey tournaments, I met a guy named Larry. Larry was a software developer from Santa Cruz, and we discussed photography as I shot his son who played on one of the teams. Larry lived right off the coastal highway and offered to let Madeline and I stay in his guest house in the mountains overlooking the ocean. How could we say no to that? We arrived late one night, and upon pulling in, the first thing I see is a full size hockey rink in his front yard.

We awoke the next morning and had breakfast with Larry and his family. We geeked out on photography, and talked about how he made his living developing software. Really interesting family that I hope to see again some day. After breakfast we headed off to the great wild land of Yosemite National park.

We spent the day wandering through the middle of the beautiful Yosimite Park seeing all we could as we drove. Stopping to hike to waterfalls and to take pictures of half dome and many other gorgeous sites. It was hard to leave but I know we will be back one day to see all the beautiful park has to offer.

We ended the day at the strange and beautiful Mono Lake. This was a place unlike any I had ever seen. The lake was filled with these odd rock formations that looked like they were from another planet. I got a few shots that evening and we ate at a local BBQ joint which had the best sauce I have ever tasted. Then we found a little hotel to rest for the long road ahead.

The next day we left, drove through Nevada, and I kept pointing out different mountains to Madeline and telling her how easy it would be to drive to the top. Of course she said no every time, but I persisted over and over until she finally let me kick it in 4wd and venture a few miles offroad to the top of a mountain. She was a little scared but it was a blast and I got a few pics in and some amateur bouldering (until I could feel her freaking out) and then we were on our way again.

Now there was much more to the story, but unfortunately I lost a weeks worth of photos from Nevada all the way home :(

We made it to Las vegas that night, (she had never been before) and since I could tell it was something she would like to explore, we stopped and stayed at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. It was up there with one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. We stayed in that night like the high rolling big shots that we are and waited until the next morning to get out and walk the strip. It was abnormally hot for a morning, but I guess not abnormal for a morning in the middle of the desert. So once we walked up and down the strip we head on through many storms to visit relatives in Texas and Oklahoma.

We had a great time but unfortunately Madeline got sick and we had to high tail it home. We had to cancel plans to visit most of the people we were going to see but she promised me that we could take another trip to my home land sometime this year :)

Staring into the heavens

When I travel for work, one thing I love to do is get some star time in. Recently I was up north to shoot a couple hockey tournaments and got to spend some time between jobs under the stars.

The first night was in Shenandoah National Park. I drive through the park, stopping to hike a few times, during the day. As I drove I kept my eye out for a good spot to get a nice milky way shot. I knew the moon was setting early and due to the high altitude and remoteness of the park, I knew it would be a prime time for a great dark night sky.

I drove completely through and narrowed my search down to one tree on the side of a mountain where I could get my car to without being seen or without danger of being too close to any cliffs. I came back during the night and set up and began to shoot. I shot continually from about 8:30 to around 3 am. As I stopped the time lapse, due to the milky way passing out of frame, I took a few more shots to keep and edit as still images. I got this one with a 30 second exposure that I really liked.

Another day was spent driving through beautiful Amish country in PA. I had high hopes for this area due to lack of major cities. However, there turned out to be enough small towns in the area to pollute the night sky enough to blot out the milky way for the most part. That was not going to stop me from getting a shot though. I settled on a spot near Blue Marsh lake and set up to get a star trail image that night. This is what I ended up with.

The overall goal was to get a couple good time lapses to add to my library of videos. I would say these were decent clips that may one day make it into my time scapes movie. I took the time to throw a song in and string them together just to display all that hard work. Hope you like.

During some travel work recently i got to get a couple star time lapses. nothing fancy but something to add to the time lapse library. will have a full length film one of these days :)

Fall is Family time!

20130827-Family-DanielAMN_1612.jpg

We are ready to kick off the fall season with our first family session of the new Newtography. We were so happy that the first family session of the new company was with some of my dearest friends Daniel and Elisabeth Troutman.

Daniel and I played ball together in high school and have been close ever since. He was recently the best man in my wedding.

He and Elisabeth have such a beautiful family. I had a blast on this family session with them, which took place on a beautiful piece of land in Ringgold GA.

Daniel and Elisabeth have 2 beautiful children, Samuel  and Lucy . Samuel is just like his dad. He is already a star athlete in his first few years of life. Not that I am surprised at all.   I have no doubt this little guy will be a major ladies man before too long.

Lucy is the newest member of the family. She is an adorable new addition who is as sweet as can be. Just take in those big baby blue eyes in all their glory :)

I must say, this was  the best ways I could have started off the family portrait season. A beautiful family like this makes great images come easily. Thank you Daniel and Elisabeth for kicking off the Newtography | Family season with us.

Lisa's Lexus

20130826-Auto-Lisa-LEXUSAMN_1427.jpg

Monday night was a pretty great night for photography. One of my favorite (and first) clients got a beautiful Lexus recently and we decided to play matchmaker and see if her car and my camera would make a good couple... Well, they did :)

20130826-Auto-Lisa-LEXUSAMN_6166.jpg

So Newtography | Automotive is celebrating its re branding with 100% off session fees in August and September. So Lisa took full advantage of this and we got to spend a solid 3 hours out and about all over Chattanooga, taking pictures of one of my dream cars. The IS line from Lexus is by far the best mix of elegance, class, and aggressive styling on the market today. Hopefully Lisa will sell it to me when she is ready to part ways with it down the road.

The goal for Newtography | Automotive is to break into the commercial automotive industry and shoot directly for different manufacturers. So being able to add beautiful cars like this to our portfolio is always something we love doing. It also helps that we live in such a beautiful city. It seems like behind every turn is another gorgeous spot to shoot. Just looking for a place to turn around we ran into this location above and had to stop and pop off a few clicks in front of the fountain.

If you or anyone you know is a car lover, feel free to give us a shout by phone or email at 423.991.8442 or Andrew@Newtography.com. We can never get enough cars booked and remember august and september we are doing free session fees so take advantage of the free shoot while you can.
